Widdicomb Make-up Table
Early American make-up table complete with matching stool by Widdicomb Furniture Company established in 1863 by George Widdicomb. Specializing in bedroom furniture, during the first two decades of the 20th century Widdicomb furniture was heavily inspired by American Empire and French design, later moving into Italian Renaissance. In the late 1930's traditional furniture designs were no longer made to make way for modern, Scandinavian inspired designs.
This example of American furniture craftsmanship reveals soft, flowing lines in a burled maple veneer with five drawers and decorative geometric ribbon wrapping the top. Embellished "tassel" legs with gold detail, original bakelite drawer pulls and upholstered stool. Matching bureau available here.
