Empire Clock with a Standing Psyche or Venus
Patinated and gilt bronze Empire clock with a standing Psyche or Venus unravelling her arrows. She stands beside a patinated plinth housing the clock movement with a bow and quiver leaning against it. The lower rectangular base, also of patinated bronze, is richly decorated with a frieze of floral garland whereupon rests a cherub. The clock sits on a further stepped gilt bronze base on four decorated feet. The dial has a gilded floral bezel around a silvered chapter ring, signed Cailliaud a Nantes. The original silk string suspension movement rings the hours and halfs on a bell.
