Portrait of a Man, Attributed to Oswald Birley

Portrait of a young man, oil on canvas attributed to English painter Oswald Birley. This painting was originally larger, likely life-size/standing, and was cut down possibly when the owner moved to a smaller residence. It's speculated that the artist's signature was part of the discarded trimmings, thus it is not visible in the painting's current state.

The frame is original, marked "Alfred Stiles & Sons Ltd." of London with a reference number. The painting has been professionally cleaned.

A favourite of the Royal Family, he was well known for his portraits of King George V, Queen Mary, King George VI, Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother and the present monarch Queen Elizabeth II.

Circa: 1910
